San Diego Gas & Electric (SDGE) is offering Alarm.com customers who have that company’s wireless thermostat an increased rebate within the Reduce Your Use program.
What is Reduce Your Use?
It’s a great new way you can save money on your energy bill, and even save your environment. When you save energy from the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on a Reduce Your Use day, SDGE will reward you with a credit. Reduce Your Use days may be called when energy use is high and usually lasts for a short time. Participation is optional but your energy-saving efforts will help reduce the strain on the system.
How does it work?
When you setup an alert, you will be notified on your phone or email the day before you need to save energy. Then just take the right steps to Reduce Your Use and you’ll see a credit on your next bill. For customers with Alarm.com’s technology, they will receive $1.25 in credit for every kilowatt-hour saved during each event, compared to $0.75 that other participants receive.
Most effective ways to Reduce Your Use
- Turn your AC up 4-6 degrees from its normal setting
- Unplug devices that aren’t in use, like printers, computers, mobile phone chargers and automatic coffee makers.
- Run major appliances like dishwashers and clothes dryers in the early morning or evening hours.
- If you have a pool, turn off the pool pump between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
To find your personal energy use information, log in to My Account on SDGE’s website and click on the My Energy tab and then My Energy Use below. Click the calendar to show the Reduce Your Use date and look for the Details table.
